Dogwood Elementary is a warm, notably diverse Fairfax County school in south Reston, backing to the Glade Stream Valley. It offers the FCPS Advanced Academic Program for gifted and talented learners, and as a Title I school it draws additional federal resources for small-group instruction and targeted support. Langston Hughes Middle School is an authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme school, an inquiry-based, globally minded approach that flows directly into the IB Diploma Programme at South Lakes. Alongside IB, students have access to the FCPS Advanced Academic Program, world languages, the arts, and high-school-credit courses in eighth grade, plus a full slate of athletics, clubs, and activities. It is one of the few Reston-area middle schools offering a true IB continuum into high school.
South Lakes High School, whose motto is "Truth in Knowledge," is one of the few Fairfax County schools to offer the full International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the capstone of the pyramid's IB pathway, alongside a broad menu of Advanced Placement courses, dual enrollment, and career and technical education. Recently renovated, it backs its academics with strong athletics and performing arts, and its graduates include NBA Hall of Famer Grant Hill and Olympic speed skater Maame Biney. It regularly ranks among the stronger comprehensive high schools in the state.
